How to choose the right electrician

For notifiable electrical work in England (Part P), your electrician should be registered with an approved scheme: NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA. Verify directly on their website.

If your electrician is registered with an approved scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA), they can self-certify and notify on your behalf. Otherwise, you must notify your local authority building control.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a formal inspection of your property's electrical installation. It is recommended every 10 years for owner-occupiers and every 5 years for rented properties. Landlords are legally required to have a valid EICR in England and Scotland.
